Beetle Sunroof kits

The Beetle sunroof kit was the 2nd "cutting" job we got involved with many years ago.  It seemed our motto was  "if it had 4 wheels, attack it with a grinder".

Our present sunroof kit has been around for over 10 years. People buy them, fit them and enjoy them. Simple!

The kit

It is made in 4 sizes, the sizes stated below is the size of the hole cut into the car.

1.Micro 28 inches long x 27 inches wide hole (71.5cms x 68.7cms) = £199.00

2. Standard 30 inches long by 29 inches wide ((76cms x 73.5cms) = £229.00

2. De-luxe 34 inches long x 29 inches wide hole (84cms x 73.5cms) = £249.00

4. Mega 38 inches long x 31 inches wide hole (96.5cms x 79cms) = £269.00

The above prices are for the unlined version of the kit. They comes with all fittings and aluminium framework, black vinyl sunroof cover, 2 locking knobs, studs/fasteners, template and fitting instructions. It is totally complete.

What do you mean by lined and unlined kits?

We sell all size sunroofs in 2 forms, either lined or unlined.

The unlined sunroof is the cheapest option if money is tight. It is made from all the same weather resistant materials and will fit the same as the de-luxe job but does not have the interior finish of the headlining under the sunroof cover, you will see the 3 ribs that are sewn into the cover but more importantly you will see the sealant used to seal the stitching. You cannot successfully retro fit a liner into an unlined kit as some of the parts have to be altered prior to sewing them in and that becomes impossible once put together.

The lined sunroof is the same job as the standard version but has a light cream headliner sewn onto the underside of the sunroof cover. This gives the roof a factory finish and is in my opinion the best and only option. We spent several weeks agonising over this bit as it was important to get the best finish and it needed to last the lifetime of the roof, as it hangs upside down all its life. Quite a difficult job, all in all, but we came up with something that has stood the test of time. Add on £60 to the above prices if you want to take up this option.

Delivery

We use various courier services to get our goods to you.

Prices throughout Mainland Britain are £21 , certain remote areas e.g. Highlands and Islands will carry a surcharge, please contact us.

Prices to Europe and the rest of the world vary, we use UPS to get the goods to you, please contact us for an up to date shipping quote. Prices are generally from £30-£60

How do I cut out my hole?

Easy, we supply a paper template to the correct size, you stick it to the roof with some tape, mark its position, then cut around it with an angle grinder or nibbler.

Can I have a different outer colour?

Yes, we sell them in 9 other colours of vinyl. You can choose either White, Cream, Puttybrown, Grey, Tan, Blue, Red, Wine and Green. This option will cost you £25 extra.

What tools will I need and is it easy?

The job typically takes about 3-5 hours to install. They have been made with the d.i.y. person in mind and many customers fit the sunroofs themselves with the minimum of fuss. You will need some simple hand tools to fit the sunroof. I would recommend an electric power drill, hand pop rivet gun, small hacksaw, small angle grinder and maybe a bench vice. If you are not keen on the job yourself or haven't the time, give me a call, I may know of someone in your area who can do the job for you.

I want one, how can I pay?

We take credit/debit cards over the phone or cheques in the post. You can also pay by Paypal (+2%) or by cash or bank transfer.

Volksworld magazine did a 50 picture "how to fit" guide on our sunroof kit in the October 2004 issue.

Want a sunroof but don't have the time or energy to fit yourself, then checkout the list below

Here is a list of fitters, some have fitted several kits, others just the one, use this list as a reference point and checkout the people for yourselves as I have not seen their finish work and cannot therefore recommend any of them personally. But it is a useful place to start if you need someone to fit the kit for you.

Its a mixture of locations, all around the country, also if you know of anybody who would like to be added to this list, please let me know and I will consider it.
