Sunroofs for the V.W. Type 2 Bus

If you are looking to replace your old leaky high top camper roof with a sunroof or want to install a BIG sunroof into your standard steel top bus then you have found the right place!

You can fit sunroofs to all type2's, Bay window or split screen.

We can custom manufacture (made to measure) a sunroof for you, to your exact hole size.

The standard job will include a Black vinyl sunroof cover, it is supplied completely finished but unlined + aluminium frame + up to 7 bars with smooth nylon fittings to span the hole (quantity depends on length of hole) + 2 small sunroof locking knobs and all the relevant trimming and rivets/studs etc. You will also receive an 8 page instruction manual, with lots of tips and diagrams.

The job typically takes about 5-6 hours to install. They have been made with the d.i.y. person in mind and many customers fit the sunroofs themselves with the minimum of fuss. You will need some simple hand tools to fit the sunroof. I would recommend an electric power drill, hand pop rivet gun, small hacksaw, small angle grinder and maybe a bench vice. If you are not keen on the job yourself or haven't the time, give me a call, I may know of someone in your area who can do the job for you.

We sell the standard UNLINED job or the de-luxe LINED job.

What's the difference?

The standard unlined sunroof is the cheapest option if money is tight. It is made from all the same weather resistant materials and will fit the same as the de-luxe job but does not have the interior finish of the headlining under the sunroof cover. You do see the ribs that are sewn into the cover and you will also see the sealant that we apply to seal the stitching.

The lined sunroof is the same job as the standard version but has a light cream headliner sewn onto the underside of the sunroof cover. This gives the roof a factory finish. This bit of the job is very slow and time consuming for us as we have to stitch in a huge piece of headlining into the outer cover. We have to keep the lining flat, keep the cover weather resistant and it has to be able to hang upside down all its life. It  takes some skill to achieve this but after many hundreds/thousands of covers we have it down to a fine art!

Do we make other colour outer skins?

Yes we do. We can supply you with a sunroof in a variety of shades.  You can choose one of 9 colours, White, Cream, PuttyBrown, Tan, Dark Green, Grey,  Dark Blue,  Red or Dark Red.

All colours: add on 10% to standard cost.

How do you work out pricing?

We work out the cost of your sunroof by the hole length you supply us with.

Its as simple as that!

For instance, if you have an old pop top roof conversion you will need to get the roof up and measure the actual hole (from metal to metal). You will need only measure the length to work out a price but as you have tape measure in hand you may as well measure the width too. Please measure over the curve when measuring the width of your hole.

Next, take a look at the size/price chart below and see which price band your hole sits into. We use price bands as a simple was to price your sunroof kit.

T25 owners are not so lucky as the shape of the roof with its weird indents makes the fitting of a sunroof close to impossible, you have to be very lucky with position of the hole or be very good with metal.

The maximum width a hole can be is 49 inches or 125cms, this is because the material used is a maximum 55inches or 140cm wide and we need the extra material to overlap the hole. We have never encountered any roof holes wider than this yet!

We use various courier services to get our goods to you.

Prices throughout Mainland Britain are £21 , certain remote areas may carry a surcharge.

Prices to Europe and the rest of the world vary, we use UPS to get the goods to you, please contact us for an up to date shipping quote. Delivery charged vary wildly as the length of the box increases the charge in disproportion to the weight. Prices for delivery to Europe are generally from £60+ , rest of the world from £85

We take credit/debit cards over the phone or cheques in the post. You can also pay by Paypal (+2%) or by cash or bank transfer.

Fitting centres around the U.K.

We are often asked about fitters of our kits in the U.K. although we do not have any authorised fitters we have sent kits to all parts of the country. Many people fit the kits themselves but some people have not got the time or the skill to complete the job and would like a skilled tradesman to complete the job for them. Below are a list of car restorers/garages/body shops to whom customers have taken kits to over the years. Some places have fitted 1 kit, other places have fitted several. There are also many more garages who's details I have mislaid.

I cannot recommend any of these establishments as I have never seen any of the finished vehicles but please speak to these individuals or go along and take a look at what they do, use this info as a place of reference.
